In addition, we will explain what effects this has on the light and shadow calculation in your project.<\/p>\n<p>Below is a rough overview of the video&#8217;s content.<\/p>\n<h4>1. Preparations for the light and shadow calculation<\/h4>\n<p>To optimally see the effects of the rotation, you need to prepare the view and the sun position.<\/p>\n<p><strong>[07:51]<\/strong> <strong>Activate presentation mode<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Right-click on the desired 3D view and select <code>Properties...<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Go to <code>Appearance<\/code> on the left and select the <code>Presentation<\/code> option under <code>Mode<\/code>. This makes shadows visible in the 3D view.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>[01:49]<\/strong> <strong>Activate calculate sun position<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Switch to the <code>Sun position<\/code> tab on the left in the same properties window.<\/li>\n<li>Deactivate the <code>Use default settings<\/code> option. <strong>Important:<\/strong> If this option is active, rotating the north arrow will have no visible effect on this view!<\/li>\n<li>Instead, activate the <code>Calculate sun position<\/code> option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>[02:32]<\/strong> <strong>Define light and time<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As soon as the calculation is active, you can set exact values in the <code>Sun position<\/code> menu.<\/li>\n<li>Select your location, date, and <code>Time<\/code> (e.g., <code>09:00<\/code>).<\/li>\n<li>If necessary, adjust the <code>Light color<\/code> and <code>Light intensity<\/code> for the sun and <code>Environment light<\/code>. Confirm with <code>OK<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>2. Move and rotate the north arrow<\/h4>\n<h6><strong>From cadvilla version 11:<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a ref=\"magnificPopup\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cadvilla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/north-arrow-dialogwindows.png\"><img data-dominant-color=\"e9edf0\" data-has-transparency=\"true\" style=\"--dominant-color: #e9edf0;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15690 has-transparency\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cadvilla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/north-arrow-dialogwindows.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"539\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>From version 11 onwards, cadvilla has a dedicated dialog box for these settings. You can find this dialog in the top menu under <code>Terrain<\/code> &gt; <code>North arrow<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><strong>Up to cadvilla version 10 (also shown in the video):<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p><strong>[04:13]<\/strong> <strong>Select the north arrow<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hold down the <code>CTRL<\/code> key and select the <code>Environment<\/code> layer in the project window.<\/li>\n<li>Then click on the north arrow in the 2D view with the left mouse button.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>[04:38]<\/strong> <strong>Move the north arrow<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Press the shortcut key <code>r<\/code> (<code>Move with reference point<\/code>).<\/li>\n<li>Click on an empty area next to the arrow and drag it to the desired new position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>[05:25]<\/strong> <strong>Rotate the north arrow<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Right-click on the selected north arrow and choose <code>Properties...<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>In the new window, enter the desired rotation under <code>Angle<\/code> (e.g., <code>90.00<\/code> degrees). This rotation determines your north alignment.<\/li>\n<li>Click <code>OK<\/code>. The light and shadow situation in the 3D view will now adjust immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>3. Hide and show the north arrow in a 2D view<\/h4>\n<p><strong>[08:56]<\/strong> <strong>Open visibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, press the <code>ESC<\/code> key to clear all selections.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click on an empty area in the background of the 2D view and select <code>Visibility...<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>[09:06]<\/strong> <strong>Hide or show the north arrow<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the <code>Visible categories<\/code> dialog box, locate the <code>North arrow<\/code> (usually found under <code>2D Graphic elements<\/code> or auxiliary elements).<\/li>\n<li>Remove the checkmark next to <code>North arrow<\/code> to hide it.
