In this step-by-step tutorial, you will learn how to insert, separate, and fully modify a garage group in cadvilla. We show you how to easily extend walls, adjust doors and windows, and change a pitched roof into a flat roof. Finally, you will see how to transfer the textures from your main house to the new garage for a perfect visual match.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important note in advance:<\/strong> The function for inserting and separating groups is only available from cadvilla version 9 onwards.<\/p>\n<p><img data-dominant-color=\"cbd1d2\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #cbd1d2;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16396 not-transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cadvilla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/tutorial-modify-group.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"404\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>1. In the dialog window that appears, enter the desired distance (e.g., <code>3.50 m<\/code>) and press <code>Enter<\/code>. Repeat this for a horizontal line (e.g., <code>2.00 m<\/code>).<\/li>\n<li>Press <code>Escape<\/code> to end the function.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>2. Insert and place the garage from the catalog<\/h4>\n<p><strong>[02:07] Select garage<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open the <code>Catalog<\/code> on the right side.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to <code>Groups<\/code> &gt; <code>Exterior<\/code> &gt; <code>Garages<\/code> &gt; <code>Misc<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Select, for example, <code>Garage and Carport 4<\/code> with a double-click to open the preview. Confirm with <code>OK<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>[03:04] Place the garage in the project<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click again on the garage in the catalog and drag it into the 2D view.<\/li>\n<li>Place the garage roughly near the guidelines, make a mouse click and press <code>Escape<\/code> afterwards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>[03:34] Move the garage exactly<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select the garage in the 2D view.<\/li>\n<li>Select <code>Move with reference point<\/code> in the upper menu (or use the shortcut <code>R<\/code>).<\/li>\n<li>Click on the lower right corner of the garage in the 2D view as a reference point and place it exactly on the intersection of your guidelines. Press <code>Escape<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>3. Separate group and adjust walls<\/h4>\n<p><strong>[04:35] Separate group<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select the garage with a left-click.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click to open the context menu and select <code>Separate group<\/code>. The garage now consists of individual, editable elements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>[04:52] Delete wall and extend adjacent walls<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select the left wall of the garage (which borders the house) and press the <code>Delete<\/code> key to remove it.<\/li>\n<li>To connect the remaining garage walls to the house, press the shortcut <code>V<\/code> for the <code>extend \/ shorten wall<\/code> function.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the end of the lower garage wall and then on the house wall. Repeat this for the upper garage wall. Press <code>Escape<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Tip:<\/em> <strong>[05:32]<\/strong> To adjust the room labeling, double-click on the &#8220;Room 3&#8221; text in the 2D view and change the name in the properties field to &#8220;Garage&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h4>4. Modify garage door, doors, and windows<\/h4>\n<p><strong>[06:07] Adjust and center the garage door<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select the garage door in the 2D view, right-click, and select <code>Properties<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>In the <code>Door<\/code> properties window, change the <code>Width<\/code> (e.g., to <code>2.70 m<\/code>), press the <code>Tab<\/code> key, and confirm with <code>OK<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>To center the door, select it again and choose <code>Move<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click, select <code>Constructional support<\/code> &gt; <code>Centre point<\/code> (or shortcut <code>M<\/code>). Click the two wall points between which the garage door should be placed centrally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>[07:51] Move door and change properties<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Set a new guideline (e.g., <code>1.00 m<\/code> distance to the inner wall) using the shortcut <code>P<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the door, press <code>R<\/code> (<code>Move with reference point<\/code>), choose a corner of the door, and place it on the guideline.<\/li>\n<li>Double-click on the door to adjust the <code>Height<\/code> (e.g., to <code>2.10 m<\/code>).<\/li>\n<li>By right-clicking on the door, you can also select <code>Change opening hinge<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>[09:18] Change window dimensions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select the window, right-click, and select <code>Properties<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Adjust <code>Width<\/code> (e.g., <code>2.50 m<\/code>), <code>Height<\/code> (e.g., <code>0.60 m<\/code>), and <code>Sill height<\/code> (e.g., <code>1.50 m<\/code>), pressing <code>Tab<\/code> after each, and confirm with <code>OK<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>5. Change roof shape and transfer textures<\/h4>\n<p><strong>[10:10] Convert pitched roof to flat roof<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select the roof in the 2D view, right-click, and select <code>Properties<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>In the dialog window that opens, click the <code>3D<\/code> button to open the preview.<\/li>\n<li>In the 3D preview, select <code>Roof side 2<\/code> and change the <code>Pitch<\/code> to <code>3.00 %<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <code>Roof side 4<\/code>, set the <code>Profile<\/code> to <code>Gable<\/code>, and the <code>Overhang<\/code> to <code>0.00 m<\/code>. Confirm with <code>OK<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>[11:20] Remove unneeded elements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the 3D view, delete the protruding wooden claddings by selecting them and pressing the <code>Delete<\/code> key.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>[11:32] Correct wall heights of the garage to the floor height of the house<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the 2D view, select the first garage wall adjacent to the house, right-click, and select <code>Properties<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Check the <code>Automatic<\/code> box under Height and confirm with <code>OK<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat this for the second adjacent garage wall.
