How to display a stair and a chimney as a 2D symbol (Works also with other objects)

,

You have entered at the ground floor of your project for example a stair (or a chimney, a fire place, a pillar…) and you want to display the stair (or a chimney, a fire place, a pillar…) in the 2D-view in the floor above as a 2D-symbol. Because you add with this method only a 2D symbol, you will not see any changes in the 3D-view.
In this Video-Tutorial we show you how you display a stair and a chimney as a 2D symbol in the 2D view.

The basic workflow:

  • In some situations, it can happen that objects which are positioned at the ground floor, get also displayed in the floors above in the 3D view (for example a chimney which is installed through several floors). But in the 2D view, the 2D symbol which depends to the 3D object, only gets displayed on the floor on which we have entered the 3D object.
  • To create a 2D symbol of an already existing 3D object we select the object – right mouse button – “Save selected objects as 2D-Symbol”. We enter a name for the symbol and we press “OK”. After it we press “ESC”.
  • To enter a 2D-symbol we select the “Catalogue” – “2D Symbols” – “Open file…”. We select our 2D symbol and we place it in the 2D view (on the floor on which the symbol does not get displayed) on the same position as the original object.
  • To position the 2D symbol more precise, we select it and we select in the menu “Selection” the function “Move with reference point”. Or we press the shortcut “r” to select this function.
  • To display the visibility of our 2D-symbol correct, we can send it to back or bring it to front. Therefore we select the symbol and we choose in the menu “Selection” between the functions “Bring to Front/Send to Back” or “One layer to front/One layer backwards”.
  • To hide a part of a 2D symbol (only optical) we select for example “2D & Layout” – “Rectangle” – “Rectangle”. We press the right mouse button – “Properties”. At the “Fill style” we select the point “Monochrome” and for the colour we select for example white. We press “Ok”. At the point “Outline” we can select the function “Invisible” and after it we press again “OK”. Now we place the rectangle over the part of the symbol we want to hide. Of course this method works also with a polygon or with a different colour.
  • The new defined 2D symbol are only displayed in the 2D view, not in the 3D view.
