How to enter the external walls of our model home with the function “polygonal with numerical input”

In this Video-Tutorial we show you, how you can enter the external walls of a model home with the help of the entry assistant.

The basic workflow:

  • To enter the external walls we select “Building” – “External Wall” – “Between two points chain”. To define the wall properties we press the right mouse button – “Properties”. In the wall properties we can enter the dimensions for the wall and we can change and the depiction of the wall filling.
  • The wall properties are finished defined and we can start to enter the wall. We only have to enter the outline roughly because after it we will define the wall lengths with the numerical input. To enter 100% vertical and horizontal walls we press during the entry the “CTRL” key.
After we have entered the walls we press the right mouse button – “Cancel” or “ESC”.
  • The tool options window automatically appears and we start to define our walls. With the shortcut “W” we can show or hide the window. We can select the window with a left mouse click or we press the shortcut “SPACE”. Now we can define in the tool options window the distance and the angle for EVERY queried wall. Therefore we can select and switch between the walls with the function “edit next wall” and “edit previous wall”. Also we can select under the point “Relating to” between the left or right wall area and the wall axis. The wall area/axis of the wall which is selected gets displayed in red colour. To switch between the fields we press the “TAB” Key. After we have defined our walls we click on the function “Close wall contour”. After it we select “Complete”.
  • Please note, that from our view, entering external walls with the help of guidelines, is way faster. Therefore we recommend to enter the walls of your project with the help of guidelines. Of course a video tutorial “How to enter a plot with guidelines” is available.
  • To display the floor area of a room we make a left mouse click into the room to select it – right mouse click – “Properties”. We select the point “Labelling” and here we select the point “Floor area”. In the field to the right we can enter for example FA for floor area. After it we press “Ok”.
  • To define the fill style of a wall we select the wall – right mouse button – “Properties” – “Layer construction” – “Material” – “2D Display”. Here we can define the fill style, colour, fill pattern, etc. .
  • To transfer the properties of the layer construction to all the other walls, we select the correct defined wall – right mouse button – “Transfer properties”. In the window “Select properties” we deselect the point “General”, only the point “Layer construction” stays selected and we click on “Next”. At the window “Select target objects” we select the point “on current layer” and at the point “Included wall types” we select the point “External walls” (depends on the wall type), after it we press “Finish”.

The zooming function used in this video works up to cadvilla V5 slightly different.
