Switching between 2D and 3D views, minimizing and closing views
For example, if you enter walls in a 2D view, then open a 3D view (for example, to get an overview in 3D) and then want to switch back to 2D view, it is best to do the following:
Switch between views (by default)
- Right-click on the desired view in the project manager (located in the right area of the cadvilla window) (in our example 2D view)
- In the context menu that follows, select “Set as current element (CTRL + click)”.
Optional for faster switching / switching between existing views, cadvilla has its own shortcut combination.
To do this, click in the project manager with the key combination
CTRL + left mouse click on the desired view.
Switch between views using tabs
If you are working with tabs in your project, you can switch the view by clicking directly on the respective tab (see arrow). Working with tabs is activated by clicking the red marked icon.

General information about changing views
In any case it is wrong to “switch” views, for example by repeatedly clicking on 2D or 3D, unless you definitely need another view (e.g. to work in 2 windows arranged side by side).
To close existing views, first activate the view with one of the options described above and then click on the close symbol (x) in the top right of the view window.
Further information on switching views with video instructions can be found here.
Closing Existing Views
To close existing views, proceed as follows:
Right-click on the desired view that you want to close and then select “Close View.”
Note: Up to version 12, views could also be closed by clicking the close icon (x) in the upper right corner of the view window. This function is no longer available in newer versions due to multiple customer requests.
Minimizing Existing Views
To minimize an existing view, left-click the checkbox in front of the desired view. Once the checkmark is removed, the view will be minimized. The major advantage of minimizing views is that minimized views are no longer updated, as they are “invisible.” This means that no resources are used for updating or for complex calculations such as hidden line computations. As a result, the processing speed of your project can increase significantly, especially for complex or large projects.
If you need a minimized view again, simply check the box once more. The view will immediately become visible again, and all necessary calculations will be updated automatically. This allows you to flexibly decide which views remain active, optimizing the performance of your work.
