Do you want to export your cadvilla project as a DWG or DXF file for use in other CAD programs? In this step-by-step tutorial, you will learn exactly how to export 2D plans quickly and correctly. First, we show you how to prepare the 2D view and start the export process. Then, you will configure important export settings such as format, layers, and element types, ensuring optimal results for further processing.

Important note about the format:
The 2D DXF/DWG format is a pure 2D vector format. Consequently, it only stores simple elements such as lines, polygons, or text. Intelligent object relationships are lost during export. This means that, although a window may visually appear correct in another program, technically it consists only of separate, unconnected lines and surfaces.

Note: This function is available in cadvilla professional plus or as an additional module.

1. Prepare and Start the Export

[00:42] Select 2D View

• First, switch to the 2D view by clicking into the 2D window to make it active.
• Important: The export function is only available when the 2D view is active.

[00:50] Open Export Menu

• Open the application menu via the cadvilla logo (File) in the top-left corner.
• Then select Export > 2D Formats > 2D DXF/DWG file.
• Consequently, the export dialog opens.

2. Configure Export Settings

[01:12] Select Format

• In the General tab, choose the desired file format from the dropdown menu.
• For example, select AutoCAD 2013 DWG.

[01:28] Adjust Additional Options

• Click on More options....
• Here, you can define settings for Colors, Hatching, and Lines according to your needs.

[01:37] Show or Hide Layers

• Switch to the Layers tab.
• Here, you can enable or disable specific layers such as Environment or floor plans.
• Additionally, the preview window updates automatically with every change.

[01:45] Filter Element Types

• Click on the Types tab.
• Now, you can specifically show or hide elements such as:
  • 2D Graphic elements
  • 3D-Objects
  • Construction Elements
  • Room boundary
• Consequently, only the selected elements will be exported.
• The preview updates instantly, allowing precise control.

• Once all settings are defined, click OK to proceed.

3. Save the File

• • The “Save 2D-Symbol file as” dialog opens.

• Enter a suitable file name (e.g., “groundfloor_DWG”).

• Finally, click OK to save the file.
