Tutorial: How to Define the Environment and Terrain Properties

Welcome to our technical guide on modifying terrain dimensions in cadvilla. By default, the software generates an initial environment surrounding your project with a standard size of 100 x 100 meters. However, you can easily adjust these exact measurements at any time to match your actual property dimensions. Consequently, defining the correct terrain size ensures a realistic 3D representation and provides an accurate baseline for further landscaping tasks.

Step-by-Step Instructions, defining the environment and terrain properties

[0:31] Selecting the Environment Layer To edit the properties of the terrain, you must first activate the corresponding layer inside your project structure.

  • Therefore, press and hold the CTRL key on your keyboard.
  • Next, select the Environment layer inside your project viewer using a left mouse click.
  • Consequently, the environment outline becomes active, setting the stage for direct geometric modifications.

[0:45] Opening the Properties

  • First, select the environment area directly in your 2D view with a left mouse click.
  • Subsequently, press the right mouse button directly on the selected environment surface.
  • Finally, choose Properties from the opening context menu.

[1:07] Adjusting the Dimensions: The properties’ dialog opens, allowing you to define the exact dimensions and various other parameters of your active environment.

  • Navigate directly to the numerical dimension input fields.
  • For the Width, simply enter your required value (for example, 40 meters).
  • Furthermore, for the Depth, enter your corresponding value (for example, 20 meters).

[1:22] Confirming the Changes

  • After entering the accurate property values, confirm your changes by clicking the OK button. As a result, the terrain will immediately adjust to the newly defined dimensions across both the 2D and 3D views.
  • Finally, press the ESC key to drop the active selection of the environment and return to your standard drafting mode.
