In this tutorial, you will learn how to move windows within a wall using construction aids. Furthermore, we outline the usage of reference point tools to align objects. Consequently, applying these methods will help you draft floor plans more efficiently.
Important Note: Please be aware that starting from version 10, the positioning of windows and doors was revised. Therefore, you can find the most current method in our updated video: 👉 Fast and dimensionally accurate positioning of windows and doors
1. Method 1: Move with Reference Point
This method is useful when you want to align a distinct point of the window (e.g., a bottom corner) to a specific position (such as an intersecting guideline).
[0:37] Selecting the Window
- Initially, click the target window using your left mouse button to select it.
[0:54] Choosing the Function
- Subsequently, an automatic selection menu appears on your screen.
- Here, select the symbol for
Move with reference point. Alternatively, you can press the shortcut keyR.
[1:14] Determining the Reference Point
- Next, click on the specific point of the window that you want to grab (for instance, the lower left corner).
[1:23] Choosing the Target Position
- Afterward, move your mouse to the intended target position.
- Finally, left-click to place the window.
2. Method 2: Constructional Support for Moving
This second method allows the utilization of construction aids to place a window centrally or at a defined distance. Generally, these construction aids can be used for positioning any element, but we demonstrate it here with a window.
[1:44] Selecting the Window
- First, click the window with your left mouse button to select it.
[1:48] Choosing the Move Function
- Next, select the
Movesymbol from the popup selection menu. - Consequently, the window hangs centrally on your mouse cursor (indicated by a blue circle representing the default reference point). Now, you can apply the required construction aids.
Applying Constructional Support Features
[2:42] Placing the window centrally between two points:
- Select the window with the left mouse button.
- While moving the object, press the right mouse button to open the context menu. Then, navigate to
Constructional support>Centre point. Additionally, you can press the shortcut keyM. - Subsequently, click sequentially on the two reference points (e.g., two wall corners or guidelines) between which the window should be centered.
[3:38] Changing the reference point of the window:
- By default, the active grip point rests in the middle of the window.
- To shift this reference point to the left reveal edge, press the key combination
CTRL + W. - Therefore, with every single keystroke, the reference point sequentially jumps further (Middle ⇾ Left ⇾ Right, etc.).
[4:13] Placing the window at a fixed distance:
- If you need to place the window exactly 1.50 m away from a wall corner, utilize the distance function.
- First, press the right mouse button and select
Constructional support>Point with distance from(or simply press the shortcut keyA). - Next, click on the required reference point (e.g., the wall corner).
- Afterward, type the distance into the dialogue window (e.g., “1.50”) and confirm with
OK. Ultimately, the window jumps to your intended position.
