Update graphics drivers and fix display issues

Display issues in the 3D view are often caused by outdated or incompatible graphics card drivers. An up-to-date driver ensures that the hardware communicates optimally with the DirectX and OpenGL versions used.

To check the graphics cards installed in your system, start the Device Manager. To do this, press Windows key + R, enter devmgmt.msc, and confirm with Enter.

1. Systems with two graphics cards (Hybrid systems)

Many laptops or desktop PCs have an internal graphics chip (e.g., Intel HD Graphics) installed in addition to a high-performance graphics card (NVIDIA/AMD).

  • Important: Ensure that the software uses the high-performance graphics card. In some cases, it is necessary to deactivate the weaker internal chip in the Device Manager or BIOS, or to explicitly assign the software to the high-performance graphics card.

2. Finding the right driver

Do not rely solely on the Windows Device Manager, as it often only displays standard drivers. Even if the Device Manager shows the graphics driver in use as up-to-date, check for updates directly with the manufacturer:

  • Complete systems (Laptops/Branded PCs): For devices from manufacturers such as DELL, HP, Lenovo, or Samsung, you will find tailored drivers directly on their support pages.
  • Standard graphics cards: Search directly with the two main manufacturers:
    • NVIDIA: Download page
      • Tip: Use the automatic detection (Option 2) or, for GeForce cards, preferably select the “Game Ready Driver”. Please also note our recommended NVIDIA settings.
    • AMD (ATI): Support page
      • Tip: Use the “Auto-Detect and Install” tool if the exact model is unknown.

3. Important installation notes

  • Operating system: Make sure that the driver exactly matches your Windows version (e.g., Windows 10 or 11).
  • Architecture: A 64-bit Windows strictly requires a 64-bit graphics driver.
  • DirectX check: To check your installed DirectX version, press Windows key + R, enter dxdiag, and confirm with Enter.

4. Check Windows Update settings

For the Windows environment and the drivers to work together smoothly, all Windows updates must always be installed. To check for Windows updates, press Windows key + i and then click on Windows Update.inistrative Tools -> Services -> Background Intelligent Transfer Service
