How to create a wall foundation detail with 2D drawing tools

In this Video-Tutorial we show you, how you can create a wall foundation detail with 2D drawing tools. Also we show you how to save it as a 2D Symbol and how to import it to a model home.

The basic workflow:

  • In the first step we change, if necessary, the scaling of the project. Therefore we make a right mouse click in the 2D view and we select “Properties”. At the point “Scale” we can change the scaling of the project.
  • When you enter a wall foundation detail we recommend the help of guidelines (“2D & Layout” – “2D Guidelines” – “Guideline”).
  • To define the foundation base we use a rectangle “2D & Layout” – “Rectangle” – “Rectangle”.
    After the entry we press “ESC”. To define the properties of the rectangle we select it, make a right mouse click and select “Properties”. At the point “Filling” we can select a pattern or a color for the rectangle.
  • If we would like to enter more complex forms we use a polygon (“2D & Layout” – “Polygon” – “Closed Polygon”). After the entry we press the right mouse button, select “Complete” and press “ESC”. To change the filling of the polygon we open again the “Properties”.
  • To create a multiple copy of an object we select the object, press the right mouse button and select “Multiple copy”. The Tool Options Window appears and here we can enter the number, distance and direction of the copies. The point “Clear distance” should be selected.
    After it we press “Ok”.
  • If we would like to move an object in the front or in the back, we select it and choose under the point “Selection” out of the functions “One layer backwards/to front” or “Send to Back – Bring to Front”.
  • For the dimensioning we select “2D & Layout” -“Dimensions”. To define the dimensioning we press the right mouse button and select “Properties”. Here we can edit the appearance, unit and the text properties of the dimensioning.
  • To add texts we select “2D & Layout” – “Text” – “Labeling”. We can place the labeling with a left mouse click and after it the text properties open.
  • Item texts can be selected under “2D & Layout” – “Text” – “Item text”. We make a left mouse click on an item and select for example “Polygon”. We place the line and after it we select the text to edit it in the “Properties”.
  • To save our wall foundation detail as a 2D symbol, we create in the first step a new 2D-graphic view (“View” – “new 2D-Graphic view”). We select the detail in the 2D graphic view with the help of a selection box – we press the right mouse button – “Save selected objects as 2D-Symbol”. We save the 2D-symbol for example in the folder “my samples” and after it we press “OK”.
  • To import the 2D symbol in another project we open the “Catalog” and select “2D Symbols” – “Open file”. We select our wall foundation detail and we press “Ok”. After it we insert the detail.
