Mouse and Key-Combinations for zooming in the 2D & 3D view

, ,

In this Video-Tutorial we show you some of the most important mouse and key combinations for zooming in the 2D & the 3D-view.

The basic workflow:

2D-View:

  • To get a good overview over our project we recommend the function “Show all”. We can select this function over “View” – “Show all” or we press alternative the shortcut “Pos 1” or “Home” for the function show all. With this function cadvilla zooms automatically to the nearest position in which all components of the current project still get displayed.
  • With the help of the key combination “CTRL + mouse wheel” we can zoom in and out of the view. Therefore we press the CTRL key and we turn the mouse wheel at the same time. This function does not move the project, it only zooms in and out of the view.
  • If we use the mouse wheel (up to cadvilla 5.x: key combination “CTRL + SHIFT + mouse wheel”) we can zoom exactly on the position of our cursor in the project.
  • To move our view to the right and to the left we use the key combination “SHIFT + mouse wheel” (mouse wheel down – to the left / mouse wheel up – to the right).
  • To move our view up and down we use the key combination “CTRL + SHIFT + mouse wheel” (up to cadvilla 5.x: only “mouse wheel”).
  • With the arrow keys we can move the view up, down and to the right and left.

3D-View:

  • We can also select the function “Show all” in the 3D-view over “View” – “Show all” or we press alternative the shortcut “Pos 1” or “Home” for the function show all.
  • If there is no object selected and we press and hold the left mouse button and move the mouse at the same time, we can stepless turn and tilt our project.
  • With the combination “CTRL + mouse wheel” we can zoom in and out of the view. Same as in the 2D view this function does not move the project, it only zooms in and out of the view.
  • If we hold the right mouse button and we move the mouse up or down, we can zoom stepless in and out of the view.
  • If we use the mouse wheel (up to cadvilla 5.x: key combination “CTRL + SHIFT + mouse wheel”) we can zoom like in the 2D-view exactly on the position of our cursor in the project. PLEASE NOTE: With this function it is possible that you move the centre of rotation of the project. To restore the centre of rotation we select the function “Show all”.
  • If you want to move the project up or down we press “CTRL + SHIFT + mouse wheel” (up to cadvilla 5.x: only by “mouse wheel”)
  • To move our project to the right and to the left we use the key combination “SHIFT + mouse wheel” (mouse wheel down – to the left / mouse wheel up – to the right).
  • If we press the combination “SHIFT + left mouse button” we can move the view stepless.
  • In special cases, if you use for example a tablet pc, you can also use the control panel. With this panel we can zoom, move, tilt and turn the view.

All available mouse- and key combinations you can find here.

Note: From the cadvilla version 6 the shortkeys for “mousewheel” and CTRL+SHIFT+”Mousewheel” are switched. How you can switch it back to the old style you can find at our video “Zoom on cursor position – setting options
